Hi. Good luck with that. I live in one of the areas you mentioned and am also in the 40 age group and also single. Most of the pubs, clubs out this way are simply meat-markets. If you’re going there just to have a laugh, a drink and a dance, you’ll have fun but the men can be predators! Actually, a lot of the women are too! I have had fun in the past at Daiseys in Ringwood on a Fri night with a group of friends, but again, it’s a bit tragic in the potential partner stakes. The Stamford Hotel in Rowville was quite good although the age group is a bit younger. But at least it wasn’t at all sleazy. I have heard that the Kilsyth Club is really good with a live band. Haven’t tried it yet but plan to soon. Let me know if you find a place that’s suitable as I’ve stopped going out from the lack decent venues.
