Has anyone had decking and pergola built recently… who can recommend a builder?

I drew up my own design and then got several quotes. Big difference in prices (and attitudes).
Jonathan is/was a one man band but came with photos of previous jobs. We had heavy rain on the weekend after the job was finished and the wood swelled where there had been hidden splits in two planks. He came back first thing Monday and replaced, no probs.
I suggest you do the same as me, get several guys round to give you a free quote - you can usualy tell a lot from 10 minutes face to face.
Oh, and remember, flat side up, grooved side down - no arguing!

What about DIY? We’re hoping to go down that track. Apparently decking is not that hard… nor pergolas. And that advice came from a builder, and friends who have built their own.
